Blizzard confirms multiple games in the works

GameSpot caught up with Blizzard at E3 and asked them about their upcoming games.

When asked by GameSpot if the Warcraft universe was all that's left for the company to mine, chief operating officer Paul Sams said, "No. Absolutely not. We have multiple games in development, currently, they are just not announced...to the outside world--and the reality of it is--we are laser focused on what is the thing right then, but there's a ton of additional focus being put toward these other [games] that are in development."

Reflecting on the existing franchises, Sams emphasized, "World of Warcraft and the Warcraft franchise is not the last and the only franchise we are going to operate within. We have two other very, very key franchises to our company's history and to our company's future success. The Diablo and Starcraft franchises are of the utmost importance to us as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new franchise from us at some time in the future; there's certainly a desire to do so."

Here's hoping for SC2!

If you click on the holographic projector at the bottom of the new Battle.net site you'll get a small animation of Kerrigan with the alt text "Help me Jim Raynor...you're my only hope!"

Forum Update 1

The friendly folks at Blizzard have been dropping hints in the Battle.net forums for a while now about the development of SC2. I figured I would collect them here for fellow fans to obsess over.

Battle.net has a splash screen with images that change upon refreshing. The images feature characters from Blizzard's previous games (Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo):

If you view the page source code you'll see the words "get ready" near the bottom of the page.

On the Warcraft 3 Ladder Season 3 website you'll find the following:
"On October 7, we’ll be launching the new Season Three website and revealing the dates of the other qualification periods, sponsors, prizes, formats of the tournament, details about the LAN finals, and more!"

That would explain the Warcraft connection but the StarCraft and Diablo pictures are still a mystery.

People have speculated Blizzard could be announcing StarCraft 2, the WoW expansion (although that has already been announced, kinda) and Diablo 3. I have my doubts but let's hope for the best.

UPDATE: It's a new site. Move along folks.
